Museum “Alliierte in Berlin” – Experience History Up Close
Since August 2024, the Museum “Alliierte in Berlin” has been open at Teufelsberg, inviting visitors to explore the fascinating history of the Allied forces in Berlin. Under the theme “Art Meets History,” the museum offers a unique journey through the post-WWII occupation period from 1945 until the final withdrawal of the Allied forces in 1994. A special focus is placed on the role of Teufelsberg during the Cold War, where it served as a key listening post for intelligence gathering.
The Association Alliierte in Berlin – A Community with History
The museum is run by the association Alliierte in Berlin e.V, founded in 2005 by members from various nations, including Americans, French, British, and Germans. Initially starting as a small pub project, the association managed the museum at Tegel Airport from 2008 to 2020. After the airport’s closure, the exhibition moved to Teufelsberg, first to the rooms below the canteen, which once served as the Americans’ central warehouse. Some visitors may still remember this earlier exhibition space at Teufelsberg.
Due to construction work and changes on the site, the museum had to relocate within Teufelsberg. Since summer 2024, the exhibition has been open at its new location, offering a fresh perspective on the history of the Allies in Berlin. While the theme remains the same, the concept and exhibits have been updated, making it worth a visit even if you have seen the museum before.
The Exhibition – Experience History Interactively
The exhibition at the museum on Teufelsberg takes visitors on an exciting journey through Berlin’s postwar history, with a special focus on Teufelsberg’s role as an Allied listening station. You can get up close to rare uniforms, badges, and technical equipment used during that time. You can even climb inside original vehicles and technical installations from the listening station – a truly unique experience that brings history to life.
The exhibition is continuously expanding, with more exciting exhibits and interactive stations planned for the future. Upcoming features include multimedia elements like film screenings and interviews that provide deeper insights into the secret world of espionage on Teufelsberg. Whether it is your first visit or you are returning, there is always something new to discover!
